Sitting is something that we all do and do not necessarily think about it when we do it. We know we are usually on our feet throughout the day.

Whatever you are doing, being able to move is one of the best things you can do.

Not only is it great for being able to be independent, but it is also great for your health.

Studies have shown that sitting can be harmful to your health when it comes to being healthier, happier, and not worried about getting a wide range of conditions.

If you sit a lot, it might be time to consider getting up, moving around, and doing better for yourself than sitting around and doing nothing. It’s for the sake of your health.

Sitting Too Much is the New Smoking

Smoking is terrible for your health, and the more we know about the dangers of it, the more we can warn people against doing it.

The same goes for sitting. When once, sitting and resting was a good thing, now they’re saying that it can be a bad thing.

Sitting for just 30 minutes can cause you to cut down your metabolism drastically. A slower metabolism can cause further issues when you are trying to cut down on your weight.

You want to get up within this time period and walk around for a couple of minutes before going back to the desk.

Even just standing for a few minutes is going to make all the difference.

Even if you thought that exercising was something that could be done throughout the week to negate the fact that you sit a lot.

This is because the damage has already been done and you cannot reverse it just by exercising throughout the week.

You need to make sure you’re moving things through your body by getting up now and again.

With so many bodily functions, conditions, diseases, and problems that can occur from sitting, standing for a short period of time while at your desk doesn’t seem like such a bad handoff in the face of dealing with any of the below issues.

Learning more about the conditions that come from sitting too much, as well as being able to make a change is going to make a huge difference in your life, especially if you are someone that regularly sits at a desk, on a couch, on a bed or anywhere else.

These changes can change everything.

Conditions Linked to Too Much Sitting

Research has shown us that living a sedentary lifestyle and sitting too much can lead to real problems with your health, and even premature death in some.

Some of the other conditions that are linked to too much sitting include, but are not limited to:

  • Diabetes
  • Heart Disease
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Excess Body Fat and Obesity
  • Cardiovascular Diseases
  • Cancer
  • Mental Disorders
  • Back, Neck and Sciatica Pain

All of these issues are linked with a reduction of activity.

If the body doesn’t get enough circulation through it, you will find that having anything sit where it is for too long can cause problems in the body.

Skip having this happen to you and make sure to seek out the appropriate exercise, or small movements to reduce the chances of these diseases and conditions occurring to you, especially in those who are overweight, as they have a higher risk of developing the diseases over others.

With so many conditions that are linked to sitting for long periods of time, it is important that you do something about it.

You don’t want to find yourself suffering from an issue that could have been prevented just by doing a bit of walking.

Higher mortality rates because of sitting are what many were the most concerned about because it was showing that those that sit for long periods were dying more frequently and earlier than those that would get up, walk around, stand or be more active throughout their days.

This is the real issue and the one that many do not think about due to sitting, as many of us sit for our regular day to day jobs.

Recognizing that there is an issue is the first step to repairing and helping the topic at hand. If you feel that you sit a lot, then it might be time for a change.

Making one might help your health overall, and the time you may pass away because of it.

Making a Change

There are many ways that you can go about making a change when you are sitting there and not moving for long periods of time.

Just standing makes a difference because this allows your circulation to open up, and you are straightening your back and neck while sitting would curve it over time.

One of the biggest recommendations for those that sit at their desks for long periods of time is purchasing a standing desk, rather than always using a sitting one.

There are desks that can go on tabletops, or full standing desks to help you comfortably work while standing, without having to sit down.

These desks can also transition to sitting desks if you need to sit at times.

If you are watching television or talking on the phone, you can stand, walk around and move.

The more movement you do, the better off you’re going to be and almost everything you do can be done while standing or walking around.

Standing should be something that is more habit-forming than anything, and once you become used to standing or walking somewhere after so long, you won’t think anything of it when you sit for an extended period of time.

Your body will learn to know when to get up and move again.

It has also been shown that if you want to counter the negative effects that come with too much sitting that doing an hour or more of intense exercise can help with this.

Mortality time was shown not to be limited in those that were most active and still sat for some periods.

Sitting is something we normally do, without thinking about it.

It is a part of who we are and how we live.

However, it has been shown that sitting can be as harmful as smoking cigarettes for an extended period of time.

Don’t fall into the trap of having to sit all the time. Stand, walk around, your health depends on it.

Whether you are concerned about your health, or your body and metabolism, then you need to make sure you’re someone that is moving and not just sitting for the entire day, as this is where the problem comes from.

Simple standing for a few minutes at a time between the times you sit is all that needs to be done to get the health benefits.
